The body of Dwarikesh Patnaik, a Bengali worker who died in a fire in Kuwait, arrived in Medinipur on Saturday. The coffin carrying Patnaik's body reached his home in Saratpalli at around 11:30 am. Family members were overwhelmed with grief as the body arrived, while many others gathered to pay their final respects.
Local dignitaries, including MP June Mallia, philanthropist Sujoy Hazra, and Mayor Soumen Khan, attended the somber event. Patnaik's body had been transported from Delhi to Kolkata on an Indigo flight before making the final journey to Medinipur. Fire Minister Sujit Bose and BJP MLA from Asansol South, Agnimitra Paul, were present in Kolkata for the last darshan.
The tragic fire in Kuwait claimed the lives of 49 people, including 45 Indians. Among the deceased were 23 from Kerala, seven from Tamil Nadu, and seven from Andhra Pradesh, along with individuals from Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal, Bihar, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Punjab. The C-130 aircraft carrying the bodies of the Indian victims had arrived in Delhi earlier.
